Working from home is becoming the new norm for businesses across the globe due to COVID-19. Although many doubt its effectiveness, working from home is an efficient way to keep your business afloat while preventing the spread of the virus. Below are seven tips employers can follow for working from home effectively.
1. Set clear work-from-home rules
First, you must create a comprehensive guide for working from home so everyone can follow it. The rules must include the hours of work that must be fulfilled, the communication channel that will be used, when and how the assignments should be submitted, and so on.
Clear WFH rules will encourage everyone to work seriously even without face-to-face interactions. Employees will know what time they have to start and finish work. There will be no confusion about how to communicate with each other, how to give updates, and etc.
2. Use the right collaboration tool
Coordination between employees and teams will be impossible to maintain without using the right supporting tool. Since everyone has to work from their own home, it is important to facilitate remote collaboration.
With ClickWork, managers can determine tasks for their team members. Team members can accept their assignments through notifications that appear in the system. They can also move tasks from one stage to another according to their progress. Internal communication can be done via the Discussion Board, using personal chat or group chat.
3. Determine your goals
Setting objectives will help everyone understand what they should prioritize. You can conduct a virtual meeting with all team members to explain your expectations. Then, ask each team member to determine the timeline and plan for achieving the goals. You can also ask each employee to create their own to-do list every day.
4. Keep track of daily activities
You can find out how effective the ongoing work-from-home policy is by monitoring the daily activities of your employees. This can be easily done if you use the right daily activity tracking app.
With ClickWork, you can see the location of employees when they start and finish work. You can also see all their daily work through the Task Dashboard. You can even find out how much time is spent completing a task. Employee timesheets can be analyzed easily for improving performance and productivity.
5. Take breaks
Working from home doesn’t make working less serious. Everyone can still be stressed and exhausted. Therefore, it’s important for employees and yourself as a boss to take breaks. As for the lunch time, you can arrange it based on the time it’s normally taken when working in the office, for example at around 12:00 – 13.30 pm.
6. Make working from home fun!
In the office, you can easily pay attention to your employees. You can tell if they’re tired of their work through their gestures. You might at times be able to cheer them up through dialogues or by inviting them for lunch. However, this can no longer be done when lockdowns are still applied.
To retain sanity while working from home, consider doing something fun together. For example, you can make your virtual meetings unique by getting everyone to wear a costume thematically. Of course, you can decide how often you want this to be done (because at certain moments you need more seriousness).
7. Ask employees for feedback
Listening to your employees is the best way to find out what can be improved. Let your employees give their feedback regarding the ongoing work-from-home policy. Ask them about challenges or obstacles they often face while working from home. Let them give you a list of improvements so everyone can work from home more productively.
